Dietil® contains orlistat, a potent, specific and long-acting inhibitor of gastrointestinal lipases. It exerts its therapeutic activity in the lumen of the stomach and small intestine by forming a covalent bond with the active serine site of the gastric and pancreatic lipases. The inactivated enzyme is thus unavailable to hydrolyze dietary fat, in the form of triglycerides, into absorbable free fatty acids and monoglycerides.
 

For obesity management.
For weight loss and weight maintenance.
To reduce the risk for weight regain after prior weight loss.
 

One capsule (120 mg) three times a day with each main meal containing fat (during or up to 1 hour after the meal). If the meal is missed or contains no fat, the dose of Dietil® should be omitted.
 

Chronic malabsorption syndrome.
Cholestasis.
Breast feeding.
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
 

Use in pregnancy
Orlistat has no available clinical data on exposed pregnancies. Therefore caution should be exercised when prescribing to pregnant women.
Use in lactation
It is not known whether orlistat is secreted into human milk, orlistat is contra-indicated during breast-feeding.
 

Anti-diabetic drug treatment may have to be closely monitored when taking orlistat. The patient should be on a nutritionally balanced, mildly hypo-caloric diet that contains approximately 30% of calories from fat. The daily intake of fat, carbohydrate and protein should be distributed over three daily main meals. The effect of orlistat in patients with hepatic and/or renal impairment, children and elderly patient has not been studied.
 

Oily spotting from the rectum, flatulence, faecal urgency, oily stool, abdominal discomfort, liquid stool, abdominal pain, anxiety, headache.

WARNING
Treatment with orlistat should be discontinued after 12 weeks if patients have been unable to lose at least 5% of the body weight as measured at the start of the drug therapy.

Store in a cool (below 250C) and dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
 

Dietil® capsule : Box containing 2 strips of 5 capsules each. Each capsule contains orlistat INN 120 mg.
