Cednir is the preparation of active ingredient of cefdinir, a broad-spectrum, semi-synthetic cephalosporin for oral administration. As with other cephalosporins, bactericidal activity of cefdinir results from inhibition of cell wall synthesis. Cednir is stable in the presence of some ß-lactamase enzymes. As a result, many gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms resistant to penicillins and some other cephalosporins are susceptible to cefdinir.
 

Cednir is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate following infections caused by susceptible pathogens. 

• Community Acquired Pneumonia caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Moraxella catarrhalis.

• Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Moraxella catarrhalis.

• Acute Maxillary Sinusitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Moraxella catarrhalis.

• Uncomplicated Skin and Soft Tissue Infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.

• Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Moraxella catarrhalis.

• Pharyngitis / Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes.

Adults and adolescents (Age 13 years and older): 

• Community Acquired Pneumonia 300 mg 12 hourly for 10 days

• Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis 300 mg 12 hourly 5 to 10 days or 600 mg 24 hourly 10 days

• Acute Maxillary Sinusitis 300 mg 12 hourly for 10 days or 600 mg 24 hourly for 10 days

• Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis 300 mg 12 hourly for 5 to 10 days or 600 mg 24 hourly for 10 days

• Uncomplicated Skin and Soft Tissue Infection 300 mg 12 hourly for 10 days

Paediatric patients (Age 6 months to 12 years) :

• Acute Bacterial Otitis 7 mg/kg 12 hourly for 5 to 10 days or 14 mg/kg 24 hourly for 10 days

• Acute Maxillary Sinusitis 7 mg/kg 12 hourly for 10 days or 14 mg/kg 24 hourly for 10 days

• Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis 7 mg/kg 12 hourly for 5 to 10 days or 14 mg/kg 24 hourly for 10 days

• Uncomplicated Skin and Soft tissue Infections 7 mg/kg 12 hourly for 10 days

Cefdinir is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics.
 

Cefdinir may be taken without regard to food. Cednir should be prescribed with caution in individuals with a history of colitis. In patients with transient or persistent renal insufficiency, the total daily dose of Cednir should be reduced.
 

The safety of cefdinir in pregnancy and lactating mother has not been established. So the drug should be used cautiously when benefits outweighs the risks.
 

Serious side effect may include an allergic reaction e.g. difficulty in breathing; swelling of the lips, face, or tongue; rash, redness, or itching; seizures; mucous or blood in the stool; or unusual bleeding or bruising. Less serious side effects may be mild nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea or an yeast infection of the mouth or vagina.

Concomitant treatment with oral antidiabetic preparations enhances the risk of reversible thrombocytopenia. ketotifen may potentiate the effect of the sedative, hypnotic, and antihistamine medicines, as well as alcohol. The preparation could be combined with antiseptic and antibacterial medicines.

You may take this medicine with or without food.
 

Cednir capsule and powder for suspension should be stored in a cool (below 30°C), dry place and should be protected from light. Keep out of reach of children. Once reconstituted, the oral suspension can be stored at controlled room temperature for 10 days.
 

Cefdinir 300 mg capsule: Box containing one strip of four capsules each. Each capsule contains Cefdinir INN 300 mg. 
Cefdinir powder for suspension: Bottle containing powder for the preparation of 30 ml suspension. After reconstitution each 5 ml contains Cefdinir INN 250 mg.
